The EU Nations Junior Men 2025 tournament delivered three days of competitive water polo, highlighted by strong team performances, narrow score lines and several impressive individual displays. Eight teams entered the event, including two Czech selections, with Slovakia ultimately securing the championship in a the final.
Across sixteen matches, the tournament highlighted the growing depth of junior water polo in Europe. The group stage featured several close results and even early penalty shootouts, while the knockout rounds were often decided by the smallest details. The final between Slovakia and the Czech selection offered a fitting conclusion and a balanced, physical match in which Slovakia confirmed their dominance and deservedly lifted the trophy.
The Czech silver-medal team produced one of the most positive stories of the tournament. The home team played several high-intensity matches, and although it fell just short in the final, finishing second marks a notable step forward.
The group stage brought tight battles from the get go such as Austria’s narrow victory over Scotland and Sweden’s comeback performance against Slovakia B, while the knockout rounds showcased both physical defense and high-tempo offense. The tournament also produced several standout encounters, including Sweden’s dramatic bronze-medal win over Scotland, one of the most intense matches of the weekend.
The tournament’s top scorer was 17-year-old Joe Mathieson of Scotland, who finished with an impressive 37 goals. The Most Valuable Player award went to Sweden’s Nikita Alekhin, while the Best Goalkeeper title was claimed by Czech Republic B’s Vojtěch Procházka.
